Looking for an immersive gaming experience as a girl? Then keep reading…
As a woman who loves playing role-playing games (RPGs), I often find myself looking for titles that offer strong female characters and intriguing storylines that appeal to me. While many RPGs feature male protagonists and male-dominated narratives, there are a number of great options out there for women who want to explore fantastical worlds and take on exciting challenges. In this post, I will share some of my favorite RPGs for women and why I think they are worth checking out!
Dragon Age
One of my all-time favorite RPGs is Dragon Age, a fantasy series developed by BioWare. The Dragon Age games offer a rich and complex world filled with fascinating characters and exciting quests. The series is known for its deep character development, with players able to create their own character and choose from a variety of different races and backgrounds. The games also allow players to form relationships with other characters, including romantic relationships with both male and female characters.
The Elder Scrolls
Another RPG series that I really enjoy is The Elder Scrolls. This fantasy series, developed by Bethesda Softworks, is set in the fictional world of Tamriel and features a vast open world filled with cities, dungeons, and wilderness areas to explore. The Elder Scrolls games are known for their freedom of choice and nonlinear gameplay, allowing players to pursue their own goals and play the game in their own way. The series also offers a wide range of character customization options, including the ability to play as a female character.
Fallout
Fallout is another popular RPG series that I think is great for women. Developed by Bethesda Softworks, the Fallout games are set in a post-apocalyptic world where players must survive against the harsh elements and dangerous creatures. The series is known for its rich and detailed world-building, as well as its complex and branching storylines. Fallout also offers a wide range of character customization options, including the ability to play as a female character.
Mass Effect
Mass Effect is another fantastic RPG series that offers strong female characters and compelling storylines. Developed by BioWare, the Mass Effect games are set in a futuristic universe where players take on the role of Commander Shepard, a member of an elite military team known as the Systems Alliance. The games are known for their branching narratives and deep character development, with players able to build relationships with other characters, including romantic relationships with both male and female characters.
The Witcher
The Witcher is another great RPG series that offers strong female characters and interesting storylines. Based on a series of fantasy novels, the Witcher games are set in a medieval world filled with magic, monsters, and political intrigue. The series is known for its complex and mature storytelling, as well as its deep and engaging combat system. Even though you mainly play as Geralt, you also have the opportunity to play as Ciri – Geralt’s protegee and also a witcher.
In addition to the RPG series mentioned above, there are many other great options for women who enjoy playing RPGs. For example, the Tomb Raider series, developed by Square Enix, features the strong and capable Lara Croft as the main protagonist. The games are set in exotic locations and involve a mix of puzzle-solving, exploration, and combat. Another great series is Horizon Zero Dawn, developed by Guerrilla Games. This game is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans live in tribes and fight against robotic creatures. The main character, Aloy, is a skilled hunter and archer who must uncover the mysteries of her past and the world around her.
It’s important to remember that while many RPGs are male-dominated, there are plenty of options out there that offer strong female characters and intriguing storylines. As a woman who loves playing RPGs, I encourage other women to explore the vast world of RPGs and discover the titles that speak to them and their interests.
Whether you prefer fantasy, science fiction, or post-apocalyptic worlds, there are plenty of great RPGs out there for you to enjoy!
